The Bodie and Benton
Railroad
Part 2 of the Ghost Rails Series
The Bodie and Benton Railroad was, as one
would expect, a short line railroad that was supposed to go between
Bodie California and Benton. In reality, it went from Bodie to Mono
Mills and never reached Benton.
During the
Research for the project, Ray and I took a drive out to the original
site with a GPS and camera to get coordinates. Although the park
rangers would not allow us up to the Bodie Station (which still stands)
we did extensively explore the Mono Mills area.
One
of the Interesting Features of the Mono Mills Site was the Lumber Slide
(Pictured at left) which I did model in the scenery (in both versions)
For both versions of the B&B I used Digital Elevation Maps from the
US Geological Survey to create the ground terrain exactly as it really
exists.
MSTS Version
The First Version of the Scenery was created for Microsoft Train
Simulator. Although I got the terrain modeled and the Track laid out it
is very sparse on actual "Scenery."

Electronic Arts/Kuju Rail Simulator version
In January of 2008, Kuju (the company that actually wrote MSTS)
released a new rail simulation through Electronic Arts.
I have been working on a version of the B&B for Rail Simulator
which I expect to be completed sometime in late 2009.
