In April of
2008, Ray and I bought a Mobile Home. It is located about 5 miles North
of Reno in the state of Nevada. It is in the Sierra
Nevada foothills, on the far north edge of Panther Valley. Although
technically within the official city limit of Reno, it is actually
closer to the city of Sparks.
Our home is
located in a Mobile Homes Park along with 250 others. The Park is built
bordering the 395 freeway, although we are near the front
of the park, furthest away from- the freeway. There is a Grocery Store
and small mall directly across the freeway but access is not convenient
as one can not cross the freeway and must go around. The park has a
community center with Tennis Courts, and a Swimming Pool.
The House
itself was built by Kaufman Broad ("KB Homes") in 1979 and
is 24 feet ("double wide") by 60 feet for a total of 1,440 square feet.
It has three bedrooms, and 2
baths. The Floor plan is what is called "Split" meaning that bedrooms
are located at both ends with the main living space in the middle.
Ray inhabits the back quarter of the home, while I have the front
quarter. We mutually agreed on this arrangement because I needed the
smallest bedroom for my home office and recording studio (which for
once I wanted my home work space separate from my bedroom), and needed
the "open" bathroom for the cat's needs.
The center common areas are divided roughly equally into a Living Room,
Family Room, Formal Dining room and Kitchen. There is a "half wall"
that divides the living space in half, making a formal living room and
a "Family Room." The Family room is separated from the kitchen by a low
counter ("Breakfast Bar" I believe they call it.) There is also a
Utility/Service room which contains the Furnace, a built in work
area/desk and storage/pantry. The utility room also has our clothes
washer, dryer and an upright freezer.
The lot has a fenced back yard with three large fruit trees (One
Apricot and Two Crabapple) and a storage shed. There is also a gated
side yard with a rose garden and a steel windmill. The House has a
covered car-port just large enough for Ray's VW Bug and a large deck
which overlooks the rose garden.
